Our Stay
We stayed at Applewood Countryside Park from Friday 18th to Sunday 20th September 2020. This was a short stay to celebrate Tom’s birthday. We arrived in the early evening after we had both finished work and were greated at the parks reception by the site manager.

Location / Access
Located next to Banham Zoo in central Norfolk, just 40 minutes drive from Norwich and 20 minutes from Thetford, Applewood Countryside Park is well located as a base for holidays in Norfolk. Follow the brown tourism signs for Banham Zoo, when you arrive at the zoo car park you can then easily navigate your way to the site as it is clearly sign posted.
The main camping field (Chestnut Corner and Oak Corner) is set in a horseshoe shape with the facility blocks located in the centre. The field is surrounded by trees which provides protection if the weather is on the windy side. Around the horseshoe are separate camping sections all with mixtures of grass and hardstanding. All pitches in this area have electric hook-up available (for a fee). There are three camping field in total at Applewood, another area with various hardstanding and grass pitches (Laurel Meadow) and then a rally field (Grove Meadow).

For out stay we were pitched at 10F this was next to the site road and only a short walk from the facility blocks.

Applewood Countryside Park
For the 2020 season a brand new facility block has been opened. This block contains individual shower rooms with a large shower area, sink and bench. These new shower rooms also benefit from underfloor heating for when the weather is on the cooler side. The new facility block is great given the current COVID-19 regulations as each shower room is assessed from individual external doors. When we visited guests with shower and toilet facilities in their units were asked to use these rather than the sites to reduce the number of visitor contacts (if this was not possible they happily would give you the door code).

In the area
The site is located directly next to Banham Zoo, the 50-acre site is home to more than 2,000 animals, including Tigers, Giraffe, various Primates and much more. Guests at Applewood get discounted entry to the zoo (when you book the site you get a discount code). We did visit Banham Zoo during our stay, it was lovely to wonder around viewing the animals, unfortunately because of COVID all of the zoos inside exhibits where closed, we did however enjoy the Birds of Pray show. Below you can see some of the pictures we took during our visit.
Across the main road there was a well stocked One-Stop, the closest pub is The Banham Barrel -3 minute walk (note: They did not offer food when we visited) and for those of you looking to eat out, the Trawlers Catch offers a range of cuisines including Fish and Chips, Pizza, Burgars, kebabs and southern fried chicken.
We travelled out of Banham to visit the highly recommend Shapla Tandoori in Wymondham (24 minutes drive), our go to meal out for celebrations. We enjoyed two delicious curries washed down with Peacock cider and we would also highly recommnend this restaurant if you’re in the area.
Other attractions in the area including Snetterton Race Circuit, The Norfolk Tank Museum and the Norfolk/Suffolk Aviation Museum.
The site is a 55 minute drive from the Coastal Town of Great Yarmouth and 1hr 15 minutes from Cromer.
