We often visit Fineshade Woods in Northamptonshire, which is only a short drive from our home.

Fineshade is managed by the Forestry Commission and was once part of the Rockingham Forest. Assessed along a single road (with passing places) just off the A43 between Stamford and Corby, Fineshade is the idea place to visit for either a short visit or the whole day.

All of the walks are clearly marked around the whole of the woods on solid footpaths to walk on. On this visit we followed the Purple route out of the car park. This walk was just over 3 miles (unfortunately I forgot to start my Fitbit tracker until we had already done some of the walk).

Our Cockapoo (Meg) enjoys walks despite getting muddy paws.

Fineshade has both densely wooded and open areas with a variety of play areas for children across the site.

As well as many different walking routes, there are a range of cycling route for both families and experienced riders with skills loops along the way. If you do not have your own bike cycle hire is available.
After completing your walk or cycle its always great to stop for a coffee at Grounds Coffee Shop which has an indoor and outdoor seating areas.

Fineshade Woods is home to the Stamford Caravan and Motorhome Club site, while we haven’t actually stayed here the site is clearly visable from the main car park.
