Since selling our caravan we have started going for more weekend walks as we don’t have the van to get away. While searching the internet for interesting walks we came across a route around the village of Exton in Rutland.
We often take walks around Rutland Water which is also nearby, but this is a lovely alternative.
A very clear walking route map is provided by Rutland County Council (see the link above). Start by parking near the Fox and Hounds in Exton.

This walking route is mostly across fields on some unevenground and at some points a little overgrown however the views across the Rutland Countryside are beautiful.

We came across Fort Henry Lake and Fort Henry itself. This was a unexpected discovery, the Fort is a wedding venue that despite looking at a number of venues for our own wedding back on 2018 we didn’t know it existed!

Built in 1788, Fort Henry is a gothic folly, created for Henry, Earl of Gainsborough. Wooden galleons we also part of his commission and it is documented that the lake became an area for re-enacting sea battles and ladies would sit in the Fort to watch in amusement!
