Our Stay

We visited Wagtail Country Park during the May Bank Holiday weekend. The site is just under 1 hour away from home so just the right distance for a short break for us.

Location

Wagtail is located just under 2 miles from the A1, North of Grantham in Lincolnshire.

Set up on pitch 36

The site is located at the end of a country lane. This lane is currently in a very bad state of repair with many potholes. This is out of the control of the park owners.

Directions

The below route guidance is based on information from the site and our own experience.

  • From the north on the A1: turn left to Barkston and Marston and then turn right for Barkston onto Green Lane. Follow the road until you see Cliff Lane, continue through until you see the Wagtail Country Park sign (after Wagtail Fisheries sign) the site entrance is on the left.
  • From the south on the A1: turn right to Barston and Marston (please note: this involves crossing oncoming traffic on the A1) and then turn right for Barkston onto Green Lane follow the road until you see Cliff Lane. Continue through until you see the Wagtail Country Park sign (after Wagtail Fisheries sign) – the entrance is on the left. As an alternative from the south (avoiding crossing the A1 traffic), continue to the Long Bennington junction (over the flyover), go through Long Bennington, and follow the signs for the A1 towards London Back on the A1, follow the directions from the North.

The Site

This site is open all year round. All pitches are handstanding on gravel. There are two facilities blocks, one with standard shower and toilet cubicles. The second block at individual washroom facilities. -There was no advertised cleaning times for either of the blocks when we visited.

There is an onsite bar and cafe. During our stay, both were open until late, and there was live music in the bar on Friday night.

Around the site is a scenic walk that is not enclosed, which is ideal for walking dogs (on leads). In the centre of the main park is a fishing lake that has a number of fishing pegs available (contact the reception for details). Most of the lake is surrounded by either park homes or touring pitches. However, there is a piece of grass around the top of the lake that provides access.
