Osborne House was a holiday home built between 1845 and 1851 for Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. Albert designed the house himself. An earlier smaller house on the Osborne site was demolished to make way for the new and house.

Despite being Empress of India, Queen Victoria never actually visited the country, and youtube wouldn’t believe this given the influences on the decoration of the Durbar Room.

We visited Osborne House at the end of July 2023. Despite the poor weather, we had a very enjoyable visit, there are lots of very interesting artefacts inside the building and stories to learn while walking around. After looking around the house, we then walked down to the private beach and enjoyed a coffee at the café.

Queen Victoria’s original bathing ‘machine’ is located down near the beach. During our visit, unfortunately, the Swiss cottage was closed.
