Our Stay

New Forest Centenary Site

We visited the New Forest Centenary Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite in August 2023 as part of our summer 2023 tour.

Location

The New Forest Centenary Site is located near the village of Holmsley in Hampshire (New Forest National Park) around 30 minutes from Southampton.

Site entrance and reception

Directions

The below route guidance is based on information from the site/CAMC and our own experience.

  • From the North: Turn right off the A35 (Lyndhurst – Christchurch) in 7.5 miles into road signposted Godwinscroft, Holmsley. In 0.5 mile turn right into Forest Road. The site is on the left in 0.25 mile. From the West on the A31: Leave at Cadnam onto the A337 (Lyndhurst) and follow signposts to Lymington, keeping right on the A35, then Christchurch; then as above. The roads through the village of Bransgore are unsuitable for towing. Alternative route: to avoid congestion in Lyndhurst, exit the M27 at junction 2 and follow the lorry route to site.

The Site

This is a very large site that was open to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Caravan Club (now Caravan and Motorhome Club).

Pitches are split into four areas, all named as different aircraft to reflect the former use of the site. There are a mixture of both hardstanding and grass pitches in all of the areas. This site also have premium pitches that have privacy hedges (only in their infancy of growth when we visited), charcoal BBQs, picnic bench and parasol.

There are a number of pitches that are also suitable for RV type vehicles that are longer than a conventional UK motorhome. This site is located only a short distance from the A35 and has good access therefore idea for this type of set up.

Set up on pitch 193

We pitched on pitch 193, which is in the Mustang area of the site, the first turning on the right after the security barrier.

Pathway leading out the site
Fresh water harvesting

This site is working to cut its impact on the environment. As part of this, the site staff have implemented freshwater harvesting containers at all service points. The idea is that when you leave the site, if you have any water left in your aquaroll tip it in here and it will be used to water the plants rather than the grass when you just tip it out.

During our stay, the nearest facilities block had extra toilets and showers opened. This meant that half of the site three were 14 showers, toilets, and wash basins.

In the area

There are a number of places to visit within the New Forest and Hampshire area. During our stay, we visited Beaulieu National Motor Museum (a must visit if in the area), Portsmouth Historic Dockyard (another must visit). The New Forest National Park is a beautiful place to visit, naturally filled with trees and shaped by the horses that roam free across the common land. There are a number of walks and cycle routes close to the site.

Cycle Hire

On this site, there are bikes available for hire. The Caravan and Motorhome Club have teamed up with App Bike to provide a cycle hire service directly on the site.

During our stay (August 2023), there were 5 standard cycles and 4 ebikes available for hire. Hire from the site is at a different rare to the rest of the app bike network. From this site, it costs us £1 base rental and then £3 for every 30 minutes.

If you do fancy hiring one of these bikes, a TwoGoTowing top tip, download the app bike app and create an account before going to hire as the phone signal and site wifi Signal was not strong in the area.
