Our Stay
We stayed at Grafham Water during the late summer Bank Holiday weekend (August 2022).
Location
The Grafham Water Site is located close to the reservoir of the same name in Cambridgeshire.
Directions
The below route guidance is based on information from the Caravan and Motorhome Club website and our own experience.
In the last couple of years the new A14 Huntingdon bypass has opened and there are some new road layouts in the area. Sat Navs and Google maps/earth are not recording the current status. To ensure smooth arrival to site, follow the directions below.
From the A14: turn off at junction 20 signposted Grafham Water, Ellington. Then follow signpost to Grafham and site.
From the A1: turn off A1 at the roundabout in Buckden onto B661 towards Staughton. In 0.75 mile turn right to Grafham. Follow international signs to site.
The Site
The Gratham site is based on a figure of eight layout with mostly handstanding pitches, there are a number of service pitches available. We used a service pitch for our stay however the water point was some distance from the caravan, this ment that our hosepipe could not reach, a quick trip to B&Q in Huntingdon solved this problem and we now have a hosepipe extention!
This site did previously have an outdoor swimming pool, however this has now been removed and turned into a vistor car park, (some older reviews may mention this as a facility).
The site has a play area for children located close to the factilities block, this block is to the normal CAMHC standard and kept very clean.
In the area
As we previously mentioned this site is located very close to Gratham Water (Anglian Water Park). There is a walking route all the way around the reservoir and cycle hire is available from the vistor centre.
Houghton Water Mill is around a 20 minute drive away, we didn’t visit this National Trust property during this stay but can recommend a walk along the river towards Godmanchester.
